Stop Being So Superstitious

Black cat crossing, number 13, number 17, breaking mirrors on Friday, crossing ladders, walking against a widow are some of the superstitions that people avoid in their life. In some hotels do not have room no 13, some flights also don’t have 13th and 17th row. In Brazil and Italy the unlucky no is 17, not 13.

What is superstition?

There is no single definition of superstition; it generally means a belief in supernatural power, such as fate, the desire to influence unpredictable factors and a need to resolve uncertainty.

Superstitious beliefs sometimes help to promote a positive mental attitude but they can rather lead to irrational decisions, such as trusting in the merits of good luck and destiny rather than sound decision-making. Here we are unable to take a firm decision that will lead to negative energy in your life.

Some people bother to carry charm, wear certain cloth, visiting temple or church, using specific number and colors all are elements of some superstitions. Moreover, these behaviors and actions can appear insignificant, for some people, they can often badly affected by the choices made in the real life.

Unbelievably, being superstitious can affect your behavior and state of mind. When people feel that they are out of their control, they look for external sources like asking help from their astrologer, or go to the temple to ask for a special Pooja, or conducting a special Pooja at home, etc. All are part of their superstitious state of mind. People have to put a sense of control around chaos or uncertainty. Everybody has this stage of uncertainty once in their life. That is inevitable. We have to overcome this with our will power and ability.

Superstition is the weakness of the human mind. It is true that superstition has already had a long tradition. Superstitious thinking leads you to attribute both your successes and your failures to something outside yourself. It means you are held back from developing your own inner strengths, abilities, and confidence. Moreover, you are pulling back from achieving and enjoying what could be yours.

When you understand how superstitious practices are really affecting your life, and learn to act independently of these non-scientific concepts, you will be able to enjoy much greater confidence in yourself. You will also become calmer and more objective generally. The concept has become wrapped up in our culture but we all want to feel a little more in control of the variables around us. Every situation will come and go regardless, but we can control which ones we pay attention to. Negative, controlling thoughts can’t be avoided, but they don’t have to hang around. So stop being so superstitious.
